Photo from around 1940

I assure you, this is no propaganda poster. This is actually a photo of my mom as a little girl from around 1940. This was taken by a relative of her next door neighbor (pictured on the left) who apparently won a photo prize with it and it was shown nationally in a magazine in the US. Pretty wild. Thought I’d share.

Fig Harvest

Well one great thing about the fall, aside from not having to deal with impossibly hot and humid days anymore, is harvest time. For me this year (it was a very tough growing season) that mostly means figs from my fig tree. Trung Thu (Mid Autumn Festival) 2009

To celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival last night, we had some friends over and had some incredibly delicious home made Goi Ga (a Vietnamese chicken salad) shrimp crackers (an Indonesian brand called Komodo – definitely the best I’ve ever had), and shrimp/crab/pork Cha Gio (spring rolls) from Saigon Eggrolls in Houston. September 11th Memorial Lights

I’ve had a little side project of photographing the 911 memorial lights each year since 2002 from my roof. Strangely this year, it was so overcast that all you could see from Brooklyn was an eerie glow from Ground Zero.
